The Edmonton metro area comprises the cities of Edmonton, Fort Saskatchewan and St. Albert, the Sherwood Park portion of Strathcona County, and portions of Parkland County and Sturgeon County.

  • The five leading immigrant languages spoken at home include (1) Punjabi, (2) Filipino, Tagalog, (3) Chinese, Mandarin, (4) Spanish and (5) Chinese, Cantonese.

  • Four main Ethnic Enclaves — two comprise white Canadians, namely (1) Germans and (2) Ukrainians, and the other two are visible minorities, (3) South Asians and (4) Chinese.

  • Ukrainians located in the northeast quadrant in Delwood, Kernohan and Beverly Heights, and immediately outside city limits in the eastern part of Sherwood Park. Domes and steeples of Ukrainian Catholic and Orthodox Churches dot small towns in Two Hills, Lamont and St. Paul counties.

  • Germans in the Avonmore, Terrace Heights, Kenilworth and Capilano. Their presence is felt Spruce Grove and Sherwood Park, and in rural Leduc, Parkland, Sturgeon and Strathcona counties.

  • South Asians in southeast Edmonton, mainly Eastern Mill Woods, Maple, Wildrose, Silver Berry and Tamarack areas, which is sprinkled with South Asian plazas, strip malls, grocery stores, places of worship and ethnic doctors.

  • Notable Arab peoples include Arab, Lebanese (11,395), Arab, Sudanese (2,325), Arab, Iraqi (2,800), Arab, Egyptian (2,450), Arab, Syrian (1,230).

  • Notable population of Somali (4,850).
