Brief Profile

French Canadian people are a large populated people group in Canada. Approximately one fourth of the Canadian population are French Canadian people. They trace their ancestry from the descendants of colonists who arrived in New France (Canada) in the 17th and 18th centuries.

They often refer to themselves as French, French Canadians, or Québécois. They are distinctly different people group from the Cajun, Acadian.

Those who still speak French at home are predominantly found in the New England area. Another French variant exists in the Great Lakes area, they sometimes identify themselves as French Métis. Please note: the density map uses the French Canadian ancestry alone US census data and therefore many have assimilated resulting in the actual populating being much lower than the density map.

The majority claim Roman Catholicism as their religion but most often they are non-religious.

Prayer Points

  • Pray that God send evangelical Christians to live among, learn French, and share Christ.
  • Pray that French Canadians will experience true joy that is found only in the grace and belief in Jesus Christ.
