Brief Profile

The Han Moosehide are a Native American people who historically inhabited the central western Yukon and eastern Alaska. Their name, Han, translates as “people of the river” due to the predominant mode of transportation being rivers. The addition of Moosehide came because they built their canoes, snowshoes, and sleds out of birch bark and moosehide.

They live along the Yukon River and its tributaries from Dawson City, Canada to Eagle, Alaska. Their language, an endangered language, is only spoken by a few people. Younger generations are seeking to revive the language.

In Dawson, Canada there are a few Christians with the majority being members of St. Paul’s Anglican Church. The farther one travels north up the Yukon River from Dawson toward and into Alaska there are even fewer Christians.

For more information, see Tr`ondek Hwech`in.

Prayer Points

  • Pray that Han Moosehide Christians will share the message of Christ with their own people along the Yukon River.
  • Pray that they will understand and obey the Great Commission taking the message of Christ to the least reached peoples near themselves and beyond.
