Brief Profile

The Khuen are an indigenous Southeast Asian people from the country of Laos.

They speak Khuen, a language related to the Khmu. As a fellow member of the larger Khmu people group, many aspects of Khuen culture are similar to the Khmu.

Traditionally, they cultivated the land for food and also passed their culture to the next generation by the recital of stories. As such, they are predominantly an oral society, especially for those who are 1st generation Khuen in the United States.

They adhere to Theravada Buddhism mixed with animistic beliefs and practices venerating spirits, both good and evil, and their ancestors. Shamans, medicine men, and elders are valued, being consulted and helping to resolve disputes between people.

Prayer Points

  • Pray the God will breakthrough the strongholds that bind the Khuen people from understanding and receiving the message of Christ.
  • Pray that Christians will be aware of Laotian people that they encounter, some of whom will be Khuen people.
