Brief Profile

The Puinave (also known as Puinare or Wanse) are an indigenous people group who have immigrated from their homelands in Colombia and Venezuela. In their home countries, they rely mainly on slash and burn subsistence agriculture and fishing as well as hunting and gathering.

Their primary language is Puniave. Their primary religion is an ethnic religion which is deeply rooted in their ethnic identity. Conversion to Christianity essentially equates to cultural assimilation.
