Brief Profile

The Quinault, Lower Chehalis are a federally recognized Native American people of western Washington enrolled in the Quinault Indian Nation of the Quinault Reservation.

The Chehalis of Washington consists of two divisions: The Upper Chehalis and the Lower Chehalis. Within these were several tribes: the Copalis, Wynoochee and Humptulips people were part of the Lower Chehalis, while the Satsop people were part of the Upper Chehalis. The boundary between the two groups was the confluence of the Chehalis River and Satsop River.

The Quinault Indian Nation is headquartered in Taholah, Washington. An eleven-member Tribal Council governs the tribe, which is democratically elected by the adult tribal membership at regular annual meetings. The tribe owns and operates several businesses in Taholah.
