Brief Profile

The Bermudan, West Indian Black are a people who migrated from Bermuda to North America. Bermuda has a diverse population including both those with relatively deep roots in Bermuda extending back for centuries, and newer communities whose ancestry results from recent immigration, especially from Britain, North America, the West Indies, and the Portuguese Atlantic islands (especially the Azores). The West Indian Black were traditionally workers with British citizenship and also from West Indies who in time began migrating to North America.

They speak a Virgin Islands English creole language. It exhibits characteristics of British, West Indian, and American English. Culturally, they value dance and music, especially West Indian calypso music.

They often claim either being Anglican, Roman Catholic and African Methodist Episcopalian. However, many live a more secular lifestyle going through the motions of being religious.
