Brief Profile

The Comorian Maore people, also known as the Shirazi, migrated from Comoros to North America. With fewer than a million people, the Comoros is one of the least populous countries in the world, but is also one of the most densely populated, with an average of 710 inhabitants per square mile. The islands of the Comoros share mostly African-Arab origins.

They speak Comorian, or Shikomori. It is a language related to Swahili, with four different variants (Shingazidja, Shimwali, Shinzwani and Shimaore). Arabic and Latin scripts are both used, Arabic being the more widely used.

They are Sunni Muslim. Almost all of the educated populace of the Comoros have attended Quranic schools at some point in their lives, often before regular schooling. Here, boys and girls are taught about the Qur'an, and memorize it.

Prayer Points

  • Pray evangelical Christians will intentionally engage the Comorians with the message of Christ.
  • Pray God will work in the lives of Comorians to experience a personal relatonship with the ultimate and intimate living God.
