Brief Profile

The Inuit, meaning "the people", are culturally similar peoples inhabiting the Arctic regions of Canada. More specifically they reside throughout most of Northern Canada and in various parts of the Northwest Territories, particularly around the Arctic Ocean.

Inuit people speak Inuktitut, also known as Eastern Canadian Inuktitut.

The traditional lifestyle of the Inuit is adapted to extreme climatic conditions; their essential skills for survival are hunting and trapping. The everyday life in modern Inuit settlements still reflects the history of a typical hunting culture.

Traditionally, religion and spirituality was in the form of nature worship. Today many Inuit follow either the Catholic or Anglican faith. However, traditional Inuit spirituality continues as part of a living, oral tradition and part of contemporary Inuit society.

Prayer Points

  • Pray that Inuit evangelical Christians will obey the "Great Commission" and make disciples of all nations.
  • Pray that the comforts of life will not tempt evangelical Inuit from loosing their zeal for the Christ.
