Brief Profile

New Caledonian people migrated from New Caledonia, a special collectivity of France located in the southwest Pacific Ocean, to North America. The majority are Kanak and also the Caldoche peoples.

Kanak people are indigenous Melanesian inhabitants of New Caledonia. Whereas, Caldoche are usually defined as those born in New Caledonia who have ancestral ties that span back to the early French settlers.

Since New Caledonia is predominantly French speaking, both Kanak and Cadolche speak French.

New Caledonians have a long history in North America, especially Canada, that began with trade in the 1800s. Many New Caledonians are interspersed in North American culture. However, music and dance plays an important role in their cultural lifestyle.

Their majority claim Roman Catholicism with the rest being Protestants.

Prayer Points

  • Pray God to reveal the truth of salvation through grace alone and not through acts of religious rituals.
  • Pray Christian New Caledonians will recognize the need of sharing a message of grace through Jesus Christ with other New Caledonians and French speaking people in North America.
  • Pray evangelical French speakers in North America will intentionally come alongside Christian New Caledonians to engage and plant French speaking churches.
