Brief Profile

The Caddo people, originally, resided in East Texas, northern Louisiana and southern Arkansas and Oklahoma. Now the majority of Caddo reside on the Caddo Nation of Oklahoma, specifically near Binger, Oklahoma.

Traditionally, the Caddo were "lords" of the East Texas with villages and farms stretching for miles. Caddo people now work in a wide range of jobs. Nevertheless, they preserve their identity by observing Caddo traditions, organizing societies and clubs, and keeping Caddo songs and dances alive. Women cook traditional Caddo dishes, plus some make traditional pottery.

The Caddo are also trying to revive the use of the Caddoan language. By 2009, only 25 elderly speakers were estimated to remain, none of whom were monolingual Caddo speakers, which makes Caddo a critically endangered language.

Prayer Points

  • Pray Caddo Christians to grow in their faith and to share the message of Christ with other tribes associated with the Caddo people.
  • Pray for the present Caddo generation to avoid the cultural temptation to be "in name only" followers of Christ.
  • Pray that messengers of the Gospel will take the message of Christ to the Caddo people.
