Brief Profile

The Yukpa Carib Motilon are an indigenous people group who have immigrated from the border area of Colombia and Venezuela, where there is an ongoing and sometimes violent struggle over land rights with local cattle ranchers.

Their primary language is Yukpa, and there are a variety of different dialects within the language. Sometimes, there is hostility among speakers of the different dialects. In their homeland, only men are able to use Spanish, and only for the purpose of buying and selling.

The primary religion practiced by the Yukpa is a mixture of Roman Catholicism and their native ethnic religion. There are portions of the Bible available and some audio Bible teaching resources as well.
