Profile

Traditionally, Portland has been a predominately white city, with over 90% of the population being non-Hispanic white. However, recently that trend has begun to change. Portland has been voted one of the best cities in which to live, and is considered the cleanest, and the "greenest" city in the country. This combined with its positive economic culture, Portland has become a prime destination for wealthy and skilled immigrants.

In recent years the Asian population has significantly increased in the city of Portland. Large amounts of south and southeast Asian people have immigrated to Portland searching for jobs, and higher standards of living. Currently Asians are the largest foreign-born group in the city. The Latino community continues to grow as well having more than doubled in the last decade. This combined with the fact that central Africa has the fastest growing immigrant population in the city, means that soon Portland will no longer have the predominately white population that has characterized it in the past.
