Brief Profile

The Malayali people originated from the Indian state of Kerala and the Union Territory of Lakshadweep. The majority of Malayali people adhere to Hinduism and should not be confused with the Kerala people, who are predominantly Coptic Christians. There also is a smaller percentage of Malayali who adhere to Islam.

As do the Kerala people, they speak the Malayalam language as their mother tongue.

Historically in India, they have a history of being immigrants to the Kerala state from various parts of the world, as well as a unique sub-culture owing to the tropical environment of the state. The majority serve in medical services and other professional roles.

A large number of Malayalis have emigrated claiming Malayalam heritage which also includes those who are Hindu and Muslim.
