Brief Profile

The Dane people originated from Denmark, a small Scandinavian country that has one of the strongest economies in the world. They are not people who claim ancestry. Instead they are Danes who are foreign born (that is, born in Denmark).

All foreign born Danes still speak Danish at home. Danish is a descendant of Old Norse, the common language of the Germanic peoples that lived in Scandinavia during the Viking Era.

The Danes are known for their kringle (almond paste pastry), Wienerbrød and fastelavnsboller or Danish pastry.

The majority of Danes claim Christianity as their religion and are Lutherans. Smaller numbers of Danes are Methodists, Baptists, Roman Catholics, and Seventh-day Adventists.

For more information, see the Danish Pioneer Newspaper, a north American Danish newspaper.

Prayer Points

  • Pray that Danes will experience a personal living relationship with Jesus Christ based on grace and not doing good deeds.
  • Pray for evangelical Danes to understand their role in fulfilling the Great Commission to their own people, unreached European peoples, etc.
  • Pray that the church will realize that Danes are more culturally Christian and have never been born again.
