Brief Profile

The Guamian people have migrated for many years to mainland United States. Their migration experience from their home island is similar to the experiences of many other immigrants, and what is known as a chain migration.

The chain develops when family members follow the first immigrant, after the new arrival has adjusted to the new location, acquired a home and employment, and is able to provide housing and “open (employment or other) doors” for other family members.

They are distinguished from the Chamorro people in that the majority have served in the US military and speak English as their first language.

Over the years, the Guamians have settled in many states, with a large majority living in California. See the the Guam Liberation website for locations where they have chapters.

The majority of Guamian people adhere to Roman Catholicism.
